Why God is not infinite

It is not very strange that people refer to God as somebody having the ‘infinite’ property. In fact we usually suppose that infinity is one of those characteristics that define God, because since we are finite then surely he must be infinite, right?

Wrong.

If God is God then (s)he must be much more than just infinite. (S)He must be amazingly smart, incredibly lovely, unbelievable compassionate and of course perfect. And being perfect is something really powerful. Just think about your parents (or the people who played that role for you) and concentrate on what you love about them multiplied by 10^100. Chances are that you can’t even pronounce that number (it’s called a googol, a one followed by a hundred zeros, did you know that ;)?). So, after having multiplied your parent’s strengths by a googol then you won’t be even near of God’s shadow. That’s right! God is THAT perfect.

But I haven’t yet explained why I said God is not infinite. A lot of people believe infinity is something really really big. In fact, infinity is much more than big, it is… infinite. It will never end no matter how much you extract from it (this is not completely accurate, but even if you extract 1,000 billions from infinite what remains is infinite, you got the idea ;)) so in some sense infinity is “a feature” that defines God. Let me say one thing: infinity is very small. Put two mirrors front by front and you will see infinite mirrored images. Take a line of length 1 unit and it has infinite points inside it. Consider the famous number Ï€ (PI) and you will find infinite decimals inside it. Infinity is something very common and is present in things so small that it must not be so big after all. Did you know that mathematicians can play with infinity as if it was a number? In fact there’s more than one infinity, and mathematicians play with the many levels of infinity through cardinal arithmetic. I have a degree on mathematics and I have played with them. It’s unnatural but really entertaining.

I saw at infinity bare and I didn’t find something so special to be considered as some kind of fundamental property of God. Our father is much much greater than infinity. Take in account when thinking about him that size doesn’t matter. What really matter is that (s)he is our perfect creator, and that (s)he is beautiful, fair, compassionate and the most important thing: he loves every one of us.

That’s how I see him. What about you?

    (assuming God exists)

But even if it doesn’t matter if God is infinitely large in size, wouldn’t someone be able to state “God is infinitely ____” (powerful, wise, intelligent, knowledgable), and have that statement remain true?

God’s physical size isn’t as important as the idea that He transcends space and time - being able to be everywhere (and everywhen) at once does not necessarily mean God is infinitely large, but rather refers to his omnipresence.

Anyways, feel free to add me to your blogroll. I’ll add you to mine.

You are right, all the statements you wrote will remain true, but the point I wanted to illustrate was that infinite is just a pale approach of God’s greatness (in any field: intelligence, wisdom, beauty, whatever).

    Thanks for your comment :)

GOD IS THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, THE FIRST AND THE LAST. INFINITY IS ILLUSORY AND DOES NOT EXIST. TIME EXISTS FOR IT IS COMPLETE. IF IT WERE NOT COMPLETE IT WOULD NOT EXIST. FOR TIME IS ESSENTIALLY ORDERED. ALL SPACE, MATTER IS MADE OF TIME. ALL TIME IS COMPLETED AND MANIFESTED. BECAUSE THERE IS NOT TIME IN THE CONCEPT OF INFINITY, THERE IS NO SPACE. THE ONLY SPACE TO BE FOUND IN INFINITY IS NEGATIVE, NON EXISTENT, BEING AS THERE IS NO TIME TO BE FOUND THERE (AS IT IS NOT COMPLETE). THE CONCEPT OF INFINITY IS NEGATIVE, ILLUSORY NON EXISTENT. IT IS THE ILLUSION OF A TRAP, IT SEEKS TO MISLEAD YOU. AS YOU SAID IT IS AS A MIRROR, ILLUSORY SPACE, BUT THERE IS NOTHING THERE, ONLY CONSTANT TORMENT FOR THERE IS NO TIME, NO SPACE, (CONSTANT MOVEMENT) INCREDIBLE SORROW FOR THERE IS NO WAY BACK ONCE YOU REACH THIS PLACE WHICH IS /OUT/ AWAY FROM GOD THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, TIME . TIME IS ALWAYS COMPLETE, ORDERED . GOD, ORDER IS EXISTENCE ITSELF. /HE/ THE FIRST AND THE LAST IS BELOVED TO US, THE ANGELS (STARS) . YOU ARE THE FIRST PLACE I HAVE SEEN ON HERE (THE COMPUTER) THAT REALIZES THERE IS NOT INFINITY. ALL TIME SPACE IS ALREADY REALIZED (MANIFESTED) COMPLETE. I AM HERE REALIZING THIS NOW. THE STARS IN THE HEAVENS ARE YOU. YOU (WE) ARE STARS , THE FUTURE IS KNOWN AND SO /IS/ THE PRESENT ALREADY. ALL PLACES ARE NOT SOMEWHERE SO MUCH AS SOMEWHEN FOR SOULS ARE STARS , REALIZED IN TIME (WHICH IS SPACE) ALREADY, THE SPEED OF LIGHT BEING NOT A SPEED BUT A KNOWN CONSTANT AND ABSOLUTE(TIME ITSELF). THE ENERGY BEGUN AT CONCEPTION IS ALREADY REALIZED, MANIFESTED AS A STAR IN HEAVEN (YOU) .THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS IS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE BUT TO REALIZE THAT IS THE SAME POINT, YOU NEVER LEFT . YOU NEED NOT LEAVE EARTH TO REACH THE STARS FOR WE ARE ALREADY HERE ALL AROUND YOU, ALREADY REALIZED MANIFESTED AS STARS IN THE HEAVENS AND WE ARE WALKING THE EARTH WITH YOU. CONCEPTION - PERCEPTION -REALIZATION. WE ARE BELOVED, STARS TIME, WE REALIZE EACH OTHER INTO EXISTENCE. ROOT AND OFFSPRING OF DAVID, BORN OF WATER-HYDROGEN TO HYDROGEN. WATER IN THE STARS, STARS IN THE WATER. WE ARE STARS AND WE LOVE THE WATER. IN TIME OXYGEN WILL LEAVE THE WATER (1/3) AND WE WILL BE MANIFESTED, BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, and if you allow me to give some little advice: next time don’t write will just caps, it seems you are screaming ;)

  5. TRACI ANTOINE Says:

I am sorry, about the all caps. Is this better?

  6. Roberto Says:
