What is faith
Usually, faith is seen as a property, or attribute, closely related with the religion you follow (religion in a traditional sense), but a little of reflection will easily show you that is has nothing to do with religion but with the beliefs you hold about different aspects of your reality (the belief that you are thin (or fat), the belief that you are introvert (or extrovert), the belief that it’s easy for you to gain money (or hard), the belief that people is nice with you (or they bother you), etc.).
Christian tradition says that saints were really good people because they spent their lives working for God and human kind, and because they had “a great faith”. But what is to have “a great faith”? You don’t need to be recognized as a saint to be clear for others that you have faith. Gandhi was not a christian saint but you can be 100% sure that he had an enormous faith in his abilities to help India get freedom in a pacifist way. And he did it. Hitler had enormous faith too (and he wasn’t a saint precisely). He believed with total conviction that he could get to be the governor of Germany and he did it. Then he believed that he could govern the whole world by the force, but fortunately he didn’t do it.
Perhaps those examples of historical people are just a little too far from our daily life, and after all surely they had “something more” that allowed them to be “special”. But that’s not the case. Just look around you, there’s a lot of examples of faith near. If you are an employee then you can be sure that your boss is a (wo)man of faith, that believed with great conviction that he had the strengths needed to play that role and he’s doing it.
But faith isn’t only around you. It’s inside you too! I’m sure that there are aspects in yourself or your behavior that you take by granted, but maybe they are not so certain as you have thought until now. For example: are you sure that mathematics is a science so difficult that you cannot understand better? Or did you have a strong reason to believe that you were the right person to do that job in which you are having success now? The reason of all this things is that in some moment of your life you had faith in those beliefs and now they are as certain to you as 1+1=2…
So, what is faith?
Faith is a total and positive certainty about the veracity of a certain belief.
I’m a very positive person, and I like to positively exhort people when I teach something to them, but I have found extremely useful to reinforce this concept of faith the phrase “faith is a belief where it does not exists shadow of doubt at all”.
In practice is not so simple to attain complete certainty in our beliefs because usually we have doubts about a lot of things we do, but if you dig a little you will see that there are beliefs in your life that you hold without a shadow of doubt. The easiest example is the one about parents. If you were as lucky as me, then you know that parent’s love is an unconditional one, and there’s no way this can’t be that way. That, my friend, is pure faith.
Faith is a really powerful tool. If you use it right and with respect you can reach the life of your dreams, for the highest good of you and everyone around you. But Hitler’s example, and many others, shows us that faith can also be used to cause a terrible damage to you and to the whole humanity and that is sufficient evidence that faith has nothing to do with God or your relationship with him, but with the power, and responsibility, that comes with our free will.
In the next post I will talk about how to build faith and manifest miracles in your life. And hence I already do that, I express my positive faith that you have found this blog useful and therefore you will find useful to subscribe to it in order to get an email every time it gets updated :).
